Re-Coating Lacquered Floors
A light abrade and fresh coat of lacquer that renews worn lacquered floors in Epping without a full sand.
Renew your lacquered floor
Lacquer forms a tough, clear layer on top of the wood, protecting it from spills and wear. Over the years that layer wears thin in busy areas, picks up fine scratches and loses its even sheen. As long as the wear has not reached the bare wood, a re-coat restores the protection without sanding the floor back to timber.
Our re-coating process
A thorough clean to remove dirt, grease and polish residue
Gently abrading the surface to give the new coat grip
Vacuuming and tack-cleaning to leave a dust-free surface
One or two coats of water-based lacquer in your choice of sheen
Can my floor be re-coated?
It suits lacquered floors with dull patches and fine scratches. Peeling lacquer, black water marks or worn-through areas mean a full sand and refinish is needed. For oiled floors, the equivalent treatment is re-oiling. Not sure which finish you have? Our oil or lacquer guide can help.
Why re-coat?
Usually finished in a day
Low odour, water-based lacquers
Protects the wood and delays a full sand
Restores an even sheen across the room
Matt, satin or gloss?
You can keep your current look or switch to a different sheen. Matt looks the most natural and is very forgiving, satin is a popular middle ground, and gloss gives a classic shine. We bring samples so you can see the difference on your floor.
Planning maintenance
Homes usually need a re-coat every three to five years, while busy commercial floors may need one every year or two. Re-coating before the lacquer wears through to the wood is the key to avoiding a full sand. We are happy to advise on a maintenance plan that suits your floor.
It is a popular choice between tenancies, when time is short. Most rooms are finished in a day and ready for light use within hours.

Questions about re-coating lacquered floors
Should I oil or lacquer my floor?
Hardwax oil gives a natural, matt look and can be refreshed in patches. Water-based lacquer sits on top as a hard-wearing film that copes well with spills and busy households. We recommend the right one at the survey — or read our guide to oil and lacquer.
Can my floor be refreshed without a full sand?
If the finish is worn but the wood is not damaged, a maintenance coat is often enough. It takes a fraction of the time of a full sand and keeps the floor protected. See re-oiling.
Is the finish safe once it is dry?
Yes. We use low-VOC oils and water-based lacquers that are safe for children and pets once fully dry. We suggest keeping pets out of the room for the first 24 hours, and trim claws to help the finish last.
Can you refresh a scratched lacquered floor?
Yes — as long as the wear has not reached the bare wood. We screen the surface, clean it and apply a new coat of lacquer, restoring the sheen without a full sand.
What does floor sanding cost per square metre?
Prices depend on the floor area, condition, repairs needed and the finish you choose. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and the free survey gives you a fixed written quote.
What cleaner should I use on my wooden floor?
Use a soft brush or vacuum, then a barely damp mop with a wood floor soap. Avoid steam mops and bleach or multi-surface sprays. Read our care guide for a simple routine.

Engineered floor sanded beautifully
“Another company told us our engineered floor could not be sanded. These guys checked the wear layer and found plenty to work with. It looks like it was laid yesterday.”

Decking looks much better
“The deck looks warm and rich again. We had to rebook once because of rain, which is understandable, and they rearranged quickly. Happy with the result.”
