Wood Floor Staining
Wood floor staining in Epping, from soft natural tones to rich walnut and modern greys — always sampled on your own floor first.
Staining is one of the easiest ways to give a room a new look. Darker shades feel rich and traditional, while lighter and grey tones feel airy and contemporary.
We stain floors once they have been sanded through our floor sanding services. The stain goes onto clean, bare timber and is then sealed with protective coats.
Testing colours first
Every timber reacts differently to stain — pine, oak and maple can look completely different with the same product. That is why we always lay out sample patches on your floor before we start. For more ideas, read our guide on choosing a stain colour.
Shades to consider
Raw and natural tones
Light oak and honey shades
Smoked and dark walnut
Soft greys and white-wash
Deep ebony
Floors that suit staining
Most solid, parquet and engineered floors take stain well. Pine boards restored through our floorboard restoration service often look best in warmer shades. Herringbone and block floors from our parquet floor sanding service can also be stained.
Getting an even colour
The floor is sanded to a fine, even finish first, so it absorbs stain consistently. We apply the colour in sections and work it in to avoid streaks and overlaps. Once dry, it is sealed with two or three coats of oil or lacquer. Some coloured hardwax oils combine stain and protection in one product.
Staining works best on freshly sanded timber, so it is usually planned at the same time as the main restoration. It typically adds half a day to a day to the project. We will also explain how different shades wear in family homes with children and pets.
Aftercare for stained floors
A stained floor is cared for in the same way as any finished floor: sweep or vacuum regularly and clean with a damp mop and a suitable floor soap. Felt pads under chairs and tables protect the finish. When the surface looks tired, a maintenance re-oil brings it back without a full sand.
Stained and finished floors are covered by our 3-month service guarantee. Guide costs are on our prices page.

Questions about wood floor staining
Do you need to visit to give a price?
Often, yes. A few clear photos and the room sizes let us give a guide price within a working day. We confirm it with a short visit before work starts, so the final quote is fixed.
Can you stain a floor darker or lighter?
We do. After sanding we lay out colour samples on your own floor so you can see how each shade looks in the room before we commit. Find out more about wood floor staining.
What cleaner should I use on my wooden floor?
Use a soft brush or vacuum, then a barely damp mop with a wood floor soap. Avoid steam mops and bleach or multi-surface sprays. Read our care guide for a simple routine.
Will the stain look like the sample card?
Every timber takes stain differently. Sample cards are only a rough guide, so testing on your own boards is the only reliable way to choose.
Do you need electricity and water?
We need access to a standard power socket and, ideally, parking near the property. Our machines run on domestic power, and we bring all tools, materials and dust sheets.
What does floor sanding cost per square metre?
Prices depend on the floor area, condition, repairs needed and the finish you choose. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and the free survey gives you a fixed written quote.

Coopersale
Engineered floor sanded beautifully
“Another company told us our engineered floor could not be sanded. These guys checked the wear layer and found plenty to work with. It looks like it was laid yesterday.”
Ongar
Decking looks much better
“The deck looks warm and rich again. We had to rebook once because of rain, which is understandable, and they rearranged quickly. Happy with the result.”
